About Our Remanufactured 5R110W Transmission
Without a reliably working transmission, you will not be able to depend on your 5R110W transmission even for small drives. Your transmission is one of the most important parts of your powertrain, which is what keeps your vehicle going. When you start to notice problems with your 5R110W transmission, like grinding gears or a transmission slip, you have the choice of getting a replacement or a 5R110W transmission rebuild. You may be able to repair your transmission, but you should at least make sure that all the parts are working correctly and not wearing out first. While a new crate 5R110W transmission is not cheap, you can get a top quality remanufactured 5R110W transmission at an affordable price and it is just as good or better than a new one. The best place to buy a transmission for your car or truck will be a company with a good reputation for its services and its products, known for providing factory quality refurbished parts, with a complete selection of the components you need at the right cost. Here at Reman-Transmission, we strive to provide you with the most reliable used 5R110W transmissions and remanufactured 5R110W transmissions.
What makes our company so great is that our remanufactured 5R110W transmissions feature all newly reconditioned parts. Instead of only replacing the parts which are already broken and leave the rest alone like is done with a rebuilt 5R110W transmission, we make sure that all the parts will live up to the standards of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). We want the finished product to meet top industry standards, so we make sure that each part meets or exceeds OEM standards, allowing all our customers to feel secure that their new transmission will last as long as any brand new transmission. Our 5R110W Transmission Upgrades
Heavy-Duty pump recalibration and shift kit reduces slippage and increases durability.
Reverse planetary pinion pins are TIG-welded to eliminate OE design flaw.
Upgraded low diode increases durability.
Low-Reverse clutch Tough spring retainer updated to prevent clutch failure.
Upgraded pressure solenoids improve consistent line pressures.
Completely remanufactured pumps with new line bore bushings eliminate leaks and provide superior flow and durability.
Fully remanufactured torque converter is tested for leaks, lock-up, concentricity, and balance. Upgrades exceed OE requirements and eliminate the possibilities of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration.
Bushings and machined surfaces polished to a mirror-like OE finish of 15 RA or less.
Tru-Flat qualification process applied to transmission case, valve body, pump, and channel plate prevent cross leaks and pressure losses.
All-new custom-spec bushings to improve internal fluid flow control and pressures.
Every transmission is cold-and hot-tested using a proprietary dynamometer testing program that includes fully synthetic automatic transmission fluid and a filtration system.
5R110W Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 5R110W a Good Transmission?
The 5R110W is a great transmission, but like everything in the world, even the manufacturer's product may come with some problems or weaknesses. Our remanufactured 5R110W transmissions come with all new and re-machined components along with all the factory defects amended.
How Much Transmission Fluid Does a 5R110W Hold?
Your 5R110W TorqShift transmission can hold more than 18-20 quarts of fluid, but start by prefilling with 3-5 quarts, add as much oil as you can before starting the engine (probably 8-10 quarts), then finish filling up quickly once you start the engine. If you need to, stop the engine while you finish filling as the lack of proper fluid can destroy your unit.
How Much HP Can a Stock 5R110 Handle?
The 5R110W can handle 500hp, but you can get more power with some simple modifications. For example, you can modify the pump assembly to get additional line pressure, which in turn will give your clutch more holding power on up to 700hp. Our remanufactured 5R110W transmission is a perfect option for this.
What Is a 5R110 Transmission?
Powerful but adaptable, the Torqshift 5-speed 5R110W is a Ford transmission made to work well in inclement conditions and provide consistent performance for up to 200,00 miles. If you are looking for a compatible transmission for an older vehicle, you can find a 5R110 for sale or swap that you can use to give your current vehicle more power.
5R110W History & Information
Ford’s 5R110W transmission, also known as the TorqShift 5R110W or RevMax, is actually a redesign of Ford’s 4R100 transmission, a 4-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission. The 4R100 was a great transmission for American performance trucks and heavy-duty sports utility vehicles, and it came from the earlier E4OD transmission and fixed some of its issues related to, for instance, it can handle increased torque from the larger diesel engines. The Ford 6R140 is a newer, even more, powerful transmission released in 2011.
Introduced in 2003 for that year's models, the 5R110W was originally used in F-series trucks, E-Series Vans, and Excursions. The 5R110W came in a host of Ford heavy-duty vehicles, particularly in the: Ford F-250 Super Duty, Ford F-350 Super Duty, Ford F-450 Super Duty, Ford F-550 Super Duty, Ford Excursion, and Ford E-350 Van. As you can see, the transmission specifically came out for use primarily in vehicles that were equipped with the then-new 6.0L diesel engine and was closely integrated into the function of the engine. Even though it is advertised as a 5-speed transmission, the TorqShift is a more advanced product with 6 forward speeds. While it only uses 5 speeds in a normal sequence, the transmission uses a different sequence for lower temperatures.
When it was updated in 2003, the ratio for 1st gear in the RevMax 5R110W transmission was changed from 2.71 to 3.09, and the overdrive clutch was applied to 2nd gear to provide a ratio of 2.20. 3rd gear stayed the same, with a ratio of 1.54. When operating in very low temperatures, below 5oF or -150C, the gear sequence changes, skipping the 5th gear; in normal temperatures, the transmission skips over the 4th gear. The transmission has a special transmission-fluid-temperature sensor, so it will operate at better performance even in cold weather. When the sensor is activated by lower temperatures, the overdrive clutch is engaged, providing a ratio of 1.09 for 4th gear and letting the transmission know to go into overdrive and skip from 4th to 6th gear.
For 4x4 applications, this transmission was most commonly mounted directly to the NV271 or NP273F transfer case. The NP273F is just Ford's version of the original NP273 transfer case. Regardless, as always, run your VIN to make sure the transfer case will fit before ordering.
The shifts, line pressure, and torque-converter clutch all have their own dedicated, controlling solenoids, with the current varied based on what the solenoid controls. One new improvement with the 5R110W transmission is the transmission temperature gauge, which can be found directly on the instrument cluster. A new tow-haul mode assists drivers with towing trailers and heavy loads, and the tow/haul mode can be engaged in all 5 gears.
