About Our Remanufactured 4L60-E Transmission
A transmission is one of the most important parts of any type of vehicle. When your 4L60E transmission starts to cause problems, it's time to quickly replace it. Instead of investing in a new transmission or having your old 4L60E rebuilt, a remanufactured transmission may be the best choice. You can buy the highest quality remanufactured 4L60E transmissions from Reman-Transmission at the most affordable prices. There are several reasons you should consider our remanufactured 4L60E Transmission and you will find them all below.
Rebuilding a transmission includes replacing worn out or defective parts with new ones. This often, however, creates unequal wear on the different parts inside the rebuilt transmission. A remanufactured transmission means all the worn out parts are replaced with new or re-machined parts. A remanufactured 4L60E Transmission can provide the strength and dependability you need for your transmission to last up to 200,000 miles or more. At Reman-Transmission we go beyond a rebuild, making sure the entire transmission assembly from the inside-out is reconditioned and meets or exceeds OEM specifications. We replace all used parts inside the transmission bell housing with new or re-machined components.
Originally manufactured by GM, our 4L60E transmission includes upgraded aluminum OE 1-2 accumulator pistons that prevent premature clutch failure as well as basic wear. There are also fully updated regulator valves, TCC control, and actuator feed limit valves. Additionally, we offer a high energy 3-4 clutch pack that's been upgraded from 6 to 7 clutches and a fully remanufactured pump.
A remanufactured transmission, such as the 4L60E, will cost considerably less than a new one. Built right, the 4L60E will also be reliable and not fail you down the road. At Reman-Transmission, we offer free shipping, an up to 5-years unlimited mileage warranty, no core charge for 30 days, and outstanding customer support for the 4L60E. We have a variety of remanufactured manual and automatic transmissions in stock from all major import and domestic manufacturers. We also inspect and test each specific part, making sure it meets or exceeds OEM specifications before shipping. This ensures that our transmissions, including the 4L60E, outlast new OEM crate transmissions. You'll receive a professionally built 4L60E transmission when you make your purchase with us. If you're looking for a replacement transmission for American or import, contact us today at Reman-Transmission.

Our 4L60-E Transmission Upgrades
To restore hydraulic integrity, oversize PR valves are utilized.
To address common wear problems TCC control valve, TCC regulator valve, and Actuator Feed Valve have been updated.
To address the issues that can cause premature clutch failure, 1-2 Accumulator Pistons, upgraded to aluminum, replaced OE plastic pistons.
Tru-Flat stator qualification and machining process.
To eliminate common OE failures, Sun Shells updated to the latest, stronger, and more durable design.
To increase durability over the OE design, High Energy 2-4 band installed.
To increase durability and torque capacity, High Energy 3-4 clutch pack was upgraded from 6 to 7 clutches.
To eliminate leaks and provide superior flow and durability, a remanufactured pump, with new line bore bushings was used.
To improve a pressure control and shift quality, a fully remanufactured valve body, with complete system correction and recalibration kit.
To eliminate the possibilities of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration, a fully remanufactured and improved torque converter tested for leaks, concentricity, and balance. These upgrades exceed OE requirements.
To improve internal fluid flow control and fluid pressures, all new bushings installed in key locations.
To address several OE flaws, a complete system correction and recalibration kit installed. These modifications include updates to servos, the PR system as well as valve body accumulators.
To reduce the slippage and to increase durability, a heavy-duty recalibration kit was installed.
Every transmission is DYNO tested as well as cold and hot tested before shipment. Complete road simulation using a dynamometer testing program called C.A.R.S. (Computer Aided Road Simulation).
4L60-E Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 4L60E transmission good?
Yes, the 4L60E transmission is known as a reliable gearbox that can handle whatever you throw at it. When reconditioned to the right specification using quality components, it’s ultra strong and ready for your LS swap or any other high-performance build you can dream up.
How do I know if my 4L60E is bad?
You can tell your 4L60E is bad if it’s slipping while shifting gears or outright fails to shift. The symptoms should appear without a check engine light, which would indicate that the gearbox has a bad solenoid. To fix the problem, source a remanufactured 4L60E built to OEM specification.
How long does the 4L60E transmission last?
With proper maintenance, the 4L60E transmission can last even longer than 200,000 miles. A remanufactured unit can last much longer since all its internals are replaced with new or re-machined parts that exceed original equipment manufacturer specs.
Is it better to buy a used, rebuilt, or remanufactured 4L60E transmission?
A remanufactured 4L60E is better than a used or rebuilt product in terms of cost and reliability. You just have to find a reputable supplier who uses the Hollander Interchange to source the right gearbox. Then, you can stay in the zone while doing your vehicle repairs or swap project.
4L60-E History & Information
The original 4L60E as we know it today actually started out as the Turbo-Hydramatic (TH) or (THM) 400. The TH400 transmission had many variants it for other applications: TH350, TH300, TH250, TH200, 3L80, and 3L80HD. Out of all of those transmission variants, the most common were the THM400 and THM350. All of the aforementioned transmissions were some of the first 3-speed automatic transmissions that were slowly innovated until General Motors (GM) unveiled the Turbo-Hydramatic 700-R4 design in 1983. The transmission was known as the 700R4, 700-R4, TH700, TH700-R4, and THM700-R4 but was ultimately renamed to the 4L60-E we know today when it arrived in the Chevrolet Suburban and similar GM vehicles in 1993.
The next year, they added it to their RWD cars, like the Camaro and Corvette, as it proved best for all their rock-steady rides. Starting in 1996, they took this auto gearbox to the next level by adding a bolt-on bell housing and stronger internal components. With its four drive gears, the 4L60E pairs perfectly with each longitudinal factory engine option, including every high-performance LS powertrain. By 1998, it could handle up to 360 lb-ft of torque with ease. This made it the ideal option for stock, street, and race applications. Beyond that, the advanced dual-shift solenoids readied it for OBD II vehicles without making it too expensive to buy. Additionally, the 4L65-E and 4L70-E were introduced as near exact successors of the 4L60E, except with some modified components added to make them more suitable for an increased strain with larger vehicles. Even stronger variants eventually made their way into the market like the 4L80-E and 4L85-E transmissions.
Some of the most common vehicles this transmission was put in were the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Silverado 2500, and Silverado 3500 as well as the GMC Canyon, Envoy, Safari, Savana, Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500, and Sierra 3500. Additionally, the 4L60 was used as the main transmission for the 1500 Express Van, 2500 Express Van, 3500 Express Van, Tahoe, Trailblazer, Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade, and Buick Rainier.

Despite its affordable build, this transmission quickly gained a reputation for being truly reliable, swap friendly, and easy to repair. Even better, the parts are cheap, yet high quality, though it does take a skilled transmission remanufacturing company to make it better than new. When your 4L60E transmission starts to cause problems, it's time to quickly replace it.
