About Our Remanufactured 46RE Transmission

Transmission

At Reman-Transmission, we are proud to be the best place to buy transmissions for sale, including used 46RE transmissions and remanufactured 46RE transmissions for a variety of makes and models. As a supplier for “46RE transmissions near me”, our goal is to provide you with the top transmission replacement possible. We are among the leaders in our industry, and we would be happy to show you why. When you come to browse through our massive online catalog, we will use an advanced VIN system to search our company catalog of affordable transmissions, making sure that we provide you with the best product match possible for you. We will find a transmission that meets your needs.

When we work on a used 46RE transmission, we will replace any worn-out and defective parts along with every other part with brand new or re-machined components. While rebuilt transmissions also replace defective parts, that is all they fix. Only fixing broken parts in a rebuilt transmission can lead to unequal wear and tear on various parts. That is why we go the extra mile and re-machine or replace all components in the transmission assembly, ensuring that you get as many miles out of your remanufactured 46RE transmission as possible. When we are done, your remanufactured 46RE transmission will meet the specification of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), meaning that it could last as long (or longer) than a new transmission.

Whether you drive an American or foreign vehicle, our remanufactured 46RE transmission could be the best option for you. We take apart our 46RE transmissions and test each part individually. Then, our professionals compare the condition of all components against the specification set by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). If that part falls short, then we get a new part and replace it before we install it in your vehicle so that you get the best product possible for your car or truck.

If you don’t want a remanufactured 46RE transmission, we also make sure that we have a full inventory of quality used 46RE transmissions for you to purchase. We make sure each used 46RE transmission is in working condition and will be compatible with your vehicle's powertrain when it returns to the street. Our smart experts will check our stock, making sure that we know the source of every 46RE transmission that we price. We are so confident in every 46RE transmission in our zone that we provide an up to 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty on most of our remanufactured automatic transmissions and even have a warranty for our used transmissions. We also provide fast and free shipping to any and all commercial addresses in the United States. If you need any help with completing your purchase on our online catalog, give one of our friendly customer support members a call today!

Our 46RE Transmission Upgrades

Fully remanufactured valve body includes updated throttle valve, manual valve, 4-spool switch valve, and pressure regulator valve for improved shifting, lubrication, and performance.

Modified valve body allows torque converter charge in park to increase durability and enhance gear engagements.

Fully remanufactured torque converter is tested for leaks, lockup, concentricity, and balance. Upgrades exceed OE requirements and eliminate the possibility of front seal leaks, premature bushing wear, and vibration. Diesel and heavy-duty gasoline applications include new lock-up lining.

Completely remanufactured pump provides consistent internal pressures, eliminating slippage and delayed engagement.

Overdrive (OD) direct clutch updated to 8-plate clutch with new thrust plate for increased durability.

Overdrive (OD) clutch updated to 4-plate clutch for increased durability.

Overdrive (OD) planetary assembly upgraded to a 5-pinion unit for increased durability.

Oversized Low/Reverse brake band strut maintains correct band clearance to eliminate drum slippage and No-Reverse condition.

Custom-machined output shaft to fit both late- and earlystyle driveshaft yokes.

New external fluid cooler provided to improve cooling and prevent fluid contamination.

All-new custom-spec bushings improve internal fluid flow control and pressures.

Bushings and machined surfaces polished to a mirror-like OE finish of 16 RA or less.

Every transmission is cold-and hot-tested using a proprietary dynamometer testing program that includes fully synthetic automatic transmission fluid and a filtration system.

46RE Frequently Asked Questions

A 46RE transmission has a total of five gears. They are 1, 2, 3, 4, and Reverse. If you have questions about slipping or grinding gears in your 46RE transmission, you should work with a professional who has experience working on this specific transmission, like Reman-Transmission.

Not every 46RE transmission is the same. For example, there is a short form 46RE transmission that is found in Dakotas and Durangos made between 1996 and 1999. During the 2000 model year, the design of the 46RE transmission changed slightly, so this transmission is newer and will not fit the older models.

Even though a 46RE transmission will fit a Cummins, this doesn’t necessarily mean it will work well. The 46RH is often a better choice for a Cummins when compared to a 46RE because the shift points can be changed more easily on a 46RH than they can on a 46RE transmission.

The exact cost of rebuilding a 46RE transmission is difficult to predict; however, it is better to go with a remanufactured transmission instead of a rebuilt 46RE transmission. A remanufactured transmission has had all factory defects corrected and all parts replaced, so it should last longer.

46RE History & Information

The 46RE transmission was produced by Chrysler’s automatic transmission division, TorqueFlite, and was originally named the A518 before its transition to the 46RH/ 46RE names. The A518 transmission was first manufactured in the late 1980s, being produced in the Dodge Ramcharger SUV from 1988 to 1993. Its predecessors include the A466 and A727, which were later renamed the 36RH and 37RH. The A518 was renamed to the 46RH and 46RE to distinguish between the type of controls the transmission had. The 46RH had hydraulic controls (hence the H at the end), which meant it was similar to the A727; however, it had slightly different parts. For example, the 46RH had an elongated tail and an overdrive gear which was not present in prior models. In contrast, the 46RE transmission received electronic controls that were not present on the 46RH and first appeared in 1996, hence the E at the end.

In use until 2003, the 46RE transmission was succeeded by the A618 transmission, which went on to be named the 47RH, the 47RE, and the 48RE. This transmission was subsequently succeeded by the A904 (30RH), the A998 (31RH), the A999 (32RH), the A500 (40RH, 42RH, 40RE, 42RE, and 44RE), and the 48RH. At the same time, there are still plenty of 46RE transmissions that are still in service today but they are just used for different applications.

The 46RE transmission is known for being durable and reliable which is why it was in production for so long. Commonly found in trucks and vans, the electronic-controlled governor pressure and impressive gear ratios allowed vehicles to shift gears smoothly. Thanks to its longevity, the 46RE transmission is still commonly used in vehicles since 2003. When it comes to transfer case compatibility, the 46RE has lots of options. This transmission came equipped with either an NV244D, NV233D, NV133D, NP231HD, NP241DLD, or an NP241DHD transfer case.

During the seemingly endless years, the 46RE transmission was incorporated into Chrysler vehicles like the Dodge Ram 1500, Durango, Dakota, and Jeep Grand Cherokee; More than 60 variations of the transmission were produced. With varying electronic and solenoid systems, the 46RE transmission proved it could work well with a variety of engine and powertrain setups.
